sunnyvale child portraits at full circle farm

My new favorite thing about being Full Circle Farm’s official volunteer photographer in residence? …my all-access backstage pass to the chicken coop!!! Those of you who are fans of my facebook page will know that I was at the FCF/CAFF kids’ night at the farmstand last night, and that the theme was CHICKENS (a Very Exciting Topic, judging by the enthusiasm of the gaggle of families who showed up :-).

For the sake of the chickens, who are still pretty young (about 6 weeks), the farm’s Garden Manager and Mother Hen, Melissa, asked kids and parents to stay in the chicken yard and doorway, so the hens had someplace to retreat to when they needed a quiet moment to themselves, but I was able to flash my pass, make my way into the henhouse, and settle on the floor to get some really awesome shots of visiting kids interacting with chickens, face on (and, yes, I’m that dedicated to my art – I will get chicken poop on my pants if that’s what I have to do to get the shot. :-)!!

The coop itself is amazing and beautiful – it was designed by the farm’s master electrician/super-volunteer Steve Molcsan, using gorgeously weathered reclaimed wood, and I have to give him a big hug the next time I see him, because I know he was thinking of me when he made the little light-window that runs along the bottom of the coop (ok, not really – it’s probably to create ventilating air currents, but it sure is a glorious light source! :-), and the late afternoon light was just glowing everywhere.

My visit started out with some very exited toddlers, and then we had a lull and then some older kids came along, and they really got the “if you’re very still and quiet and hold your hand out with food on it, the chickens will come to you” message. One little man was definitely a chicken-whisperer…they *loved* him!!

You can see a few of my faves in the collage above, and you’re welcome to view the rest of the images in this set on the farm’s flickr stream (maintained by yours truly).

So, enjoy, and see you down on the farm!

Lilia

sf bay area family portrait

More and more of late, I have found myself seeking out the inspiration and joy that I find in the company of my sisters in the child photography business…last Monday, I had the joy of spending the morning with the gorgeous, sweet, and amazing Jen, and then on Thursday, I had a picnic lunch with the lovely, joyful, and talented Annie and her sweet little man Jack (with whom I am In. Love.)…I find such wonderful energy from the peeps in my life….and just wanted to say thanks. :-)

Nope…not getting old!

So, I must start this post of with a disclaimer: I am a lazy product photographer. So, can we just stipluate that right now, and get on with the actual purpose of this post, namely, me TOTALLY PLOTZING over the sight of my work in print?!?!

Thank you! :-)

So, as those of you who have been reading my ramblings of late may have noticed, I’m really passionate about the mission of the Children & Nature Network, and just the importance of people, especially kids, having the freedom and space to be outside in an unstructured way…I think it keeps us human beings sane, and connected, and it recharges some important wells in our souls.

So when Mary from the Bay Area CINC collaborative asked me if I had some work that I would be willing to allow them to use in their publications, I was overjoyed…and that led to this post, and aforementioned plotzing…all over this:
